The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. They are members of the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded in 1982 as the Kansas City Scouts, and moved to New Jersey in 1983. The Devils have won three Stanley Cups, in 1995, 2000, and 2003.

They defeated the Florida Panthers in the First Round, the Carolina Hurricanes in the Second Round, and the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final. In the Stanley Cup Final, they faced the Colorado Avalanche, who were the defending champions. The Devils lost the series in six games, but Bratt had a strong performance throughout the playoffs.
